There’s a lot more to ogres than people think. The big green recluse starring in “Shrek,” Wenatchee’s next all-district musical, is none other than Matt Cadman, the new director of the Performing Arts Center of Wenatchee. The school district named nearly 190 elementary, middle and high school students this week as one of its biggest all-district casts. The show will be based on the 2001 Dreamworks film and 2008 Broadway musical about an ogre who agrees to deliver a princess to a scheming lord in exchange for some peace and quiet at his swamp. Accompanied by a loyal steed, Donkey, he comes across some unexpected challenges as he falls in love and discovers that princess Fiona has a secret. The role of Fiona was double cast to Alex Stroming and Maddy Atwood, who have been acting together since they were six-year-old tykes in “Sound of Music.” Senior Drew Jaeger will play “Donkey,” Shrek’s annoying and hilarious sidekick. Josie Meats will be the villain Lord Farquaad. See Friday’s Neighbors section for a full cast list.Directed by Paul Atwood, the production will run Nov. 14-16 and Nov. 22-23 in the Wenatchee High School auditorium.
