We grieved in late March after a burglar and cruel arsonist set a fire that wrecked The Grief Place on Fifth Street. We are sure many joined our sadness, as this organization that helps people deal with the loss of loved ones has played such a valued role in so many lives.
What a reversal, loss of grief and dawn of hope to read of all the efforts to help The Grief Place rise from the ashes and return to its important work. Wenatchee Valley College immediately offered another vacant house across Fifth as a substitute for the burned out hulk. The Alcoa Wenatchee Works sent volunteer remodelers and an Alcoa Foundation grant. The Free Methodist Church supplied painters. Neighbors offer everything from garden hoses to tools. Former clients sold cookies door to door to raise funds.
