ROCK ISLAND — Whimsical style and a preference for found and recycled materials are the trademarks of Thomas Howell’s wood craft.
Howell, owner of T. Logan Furniture (Logan is his middle name), has plenty of examples of his unique and useful art outside his home and shop near B.J.’s Auto Truck Plaza in Rock Island. There’s the tall, upright garden throne, made from a narrow, turn of the 20th Century, multi-glass-paned French door. Its white peeling paint has been arrested in time with a clear coat of varnish. Its arms came from an old found chair. Its decorative top, complete with canopy, was once an old whiskey barrel.
