Highline Canal should be back running Thursday

WENATCHEE — Water should begin flowing again in the Highline Canal Thursday or Friday after repairs forced a partial shutdown earlier this week.

Water leaking from the canal into a hillside near Sunnyslope forced the Wenatchee Reclamation District to divert water from the canal at its Monitor gates Sunday evening, said Rick Smith, district manager. Water was cut off to all Wenatchee, East Wenatchee and Rock Island users. Low water in the canal may have also affected users elsewhere on the canal. The leak caused no damage, but Smith said it could have over time if left unrepaired.
