William R. “Bill” Miller

December 11, 1939 ~ April 18, 2014

William R. “Bill” Miller passed away at home, with his family by his side, Friday, April 18, 2014. Bill was born December 11, 1939, in Wenatchee to David R. and Marion (Fallis) Miller. Bill was a lifelong resident of Cashmere, WA, graduating from Cashmere High School in 1958. He married Fanny Lay on September 30, 1961, in Cashmere. Bill served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, receiving his Honorable Discharge in June, 1964. Bill was active in his community, coaching Little League, serving as Cub Master of Pack 1 in the early 70’s, as President of the Cashmere Morning Kiwanis Club, as Master of the Cashmere Grange, and numerous offices in the Cashmere First Baptist Church. He worked at Schmitten Lumber Mill and Aplets & Cotlets, before farming the pear orchard he loved and worked until his retirement. Bill loved hunting, fishing, camping, a good joke, spending time with his family and going to Hawaii. He hated being cold, so he spent the last 20 years as a snowbird in Salome, AZ. Home in Cashmere, he loved his canyon, watching the deer, ospreys and all the little goldfinches.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Fanny; sons, James D. (Dennice) and Christopher Miller; daughter, Lisa Miller (Jason Williams); daughter-in-law, Denise Miller; daughter-in-law, Robyn (Chris) Higdon; granddaughters, Nicole (Tim) Germain, Tasha and Jasmine Drange, and Kyra, Shaina and Ali Miller; grandsons, Christopher and William Miller and Garret Higdon; great-granddaughters, Hope and Nevaeh; his brother, Robert (Ardis) Miller; and special friends, Harold and Sara O’Bryan. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, William R. Miller, Jr.

Many thanks to the Healthy Options staff for the wonderful care they gave, especially Nurse Tracy and CNA Brian.

A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Baptist Church, 5837 Evergreen Drive in Cashmere. Ward’s Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
