WENATCHEE - There's no doubt that catching is the most mentally and physically demanding position on a baseball or softball team.

Catchers must guide their hurlers through games, call pitches, help to align the rest of the defense in proper fashion, always be acutely aware of game situations, block pitches in the dirt and keep baserunners honest with their arms, and that's nothing to say of the beating that they take behind the plate on a regular basis. There is a reason why catchers' equipment is called 'the tools of ignorance,' after all.
