A semi-truck and trailer ended up partially submergered in the Columbia River Saturday morning, when the truck left Highway 97 near Orondo. The driver wasn’t hurt, nor were his two dogs.
Truck driver Daniel Seidler of Bakersfield, Calif. said he swerved to avoid a car that had just passed him and hit its brakes. After the truck flew over the 20-foot drop and landed in the river, he said, “I grabbed one dog and threw her toward shore.” He said he had to rummage around the cab to find the other one and then swim to the rocks on the riverbank. Uninjured, Seidler was worried about his job.
