Although the Chinese calendar doesn’t have a Year of the Tomato, perhaps Wenatchee should — this year. At least it seems appropriate, with our warm spring and then plenty of hot days this summer to bring on lots of those mouth-watering, fresh-picked fruits.

If you’re a tomato fan and want to try various types that most satisfy your own taste buds, come join the fourth-annual Tomato Gala 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 16 at the WSU Master Gardener Community Education Garden on the northwest corner of Western and Springwater avenues in Wenatchee.
