Railway reopens after fire

PATEROS — The Cascade & Columbia River Railroad is back running between Oroville and Wenatchee.

The rail service was halted for about two and a half weeks after the Carlton Fire burned through Pateros and incinerated a railroad bridge and ties.

The shortline, operated by Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services, reopened on Aug. 4 after four culverts and dirt fill went in where a two-span wooden bridge was destroyed and hundreds of wooden rail ties were replaced, said company spokesman…
