Betty Kay (Burgess) Ecker

Wenatchee, WA

On January 28, 2014, Betty Kay Ecker passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home, as she wished. She was born to the late Pauline Poole and John Sheldon. She was the oldest of eight children. Betty met and married Richard Schell in 1960, and they had two children. She later moved to the Wenatchee Valley in 1965, where she met and married Paul Burgess and they had three children. They made their home in Dryden. She dedicated herself to raising her children and was a devoted wife and homemaker. She was an avid outdoors person. The family spent many weekends camping and fishing together. In 1978, the family relocated to East Wenatchee, where she worked many numerous jobs as a CNA and housekeeper. Her most recent job was at Columbia Heights, where she loved and cared for all the residents. After her husband, Paul, passed away in 1992, she met and married Dennis Ecker on December 31, 1996. Together, they enjoyed fishing, gardening, landscaping, home improvement projects and their pets. She was a talented cook and enjoyed preparing large meals for the entire family.

After failing health forced her retirement, many people were involved in her care. It would be impossible to name them all, but they are appreciated. Special mention must be made of their closest friends, Rick and Shelia Trudell, whose love, humor and help were invaluable. Betty was much loved and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Ecker; and her children, Randy Schell of South Dakota, Cathy Schell of Wenatchee, Ron (Cindie) Burgess of East Wenatchee, Dan Burgess of Kennewick, WA and Tammy Burgess of Blaine, WA. She was blessed with 13 grandkids, Chris, Eric, Ashley, Teah, Nikia, Telissa, Tyren, Danielle, Krystal, Kayla, Shauntel, Kelsey and Ian; and seven great-grandkids, Katie, Justice, Kloe, Serinity, Nevaeh, Ty, and Kasen.

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014, at Jones & Jones~Betts Memorial Chapel in Wenatchee. Please express your thoughts and memories on the online guestbook at Arrangements are by Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home.
