It was 1948 and Harry Truman was en route to North Central Washington in a special train.

He stopped in Spokane, where the city declared a half-day holiday, but called the newspaper there, The Spokesman-Review, one of the worst in the country, along with the Chicago Tribune.

Harry was fighting an uphill battle, which hardly anybody believed he could win. He praised the development of the Columbia River, and took the train to Ephrata for a visit to Grand Coulee…
