BREWSTER — The fact that the Cashmere girls basketball team finished its regular season unbeaten deserves to be commended — after all, the Bulldogs did manage to emerge with an unblemished record even though they played in what is without a doubt the best 1A league in the state. They played at a high level all season long (even though they still insist they have room for improvement), and should feel good about their accomplishments.

But head coach Brent Darnell saw all he needed to see in the team’s locker room Friday after Cashmere won its 20th straight game, 58-48 over Brewster — nobody was celebrating a well-earned Caribou Trail League championship. Nobody was even smiling.
