NCW — Voters across North Central Washington — from Leavenworth to Oroville — on Tuesday returned ballots offering continued support for their schools by renewing levies.

For decades, every two to four years, school districts go back to voters and ask for a renewal of funds from local taxes. And while those funds initially paid for the extras — like school sports, or maintenance of buildings and grounds — they now fund everything from teachers’ salaries to the cost of running buses. Local superintendents agree they have become a critical piece of school budgets.
