In the Garden: Get those pruners, loppers and saws ready for pruning season

We have what is called “an open winter” with very little snow. That means that many of us are itching to get out into the garden.

It is too early to prune roses — wait until mid-March for that. Dormant sprays for fruit trees can be applied provided the nights are above 32 degrees. Winter pruning can begin in the middle of February because this region is usually past the possibilities of extreme cold, but watch the weather forecast.
