Douglas County deputy who snooped on ex-wife must pay own legal fees

WATERVILLE — A Douglas County Sheriff’s detective who accessed information about his ex-wife using records open only to law enforcement will have to pay his own damages and continued legal defense, commissioners decided Monday.

After losing a privacy invasion lawsuit in federal court last October, Sgt. Steve Groseclose asked the county to continue backing him in a case in Douglas County Superior Court brought by the county’s insurance company, which refuses to pay the $60,000 judgement against him.
