When I first started gathering oral histories with people in North Central Washington, I was looking for information that could help me and others better understand and care for this place.

I thought that stories about how people have improved the health of our lands and waters, adapted to change and worked together to get things done could help us take actions to sustain and enhance our region. Why “reinvent the wheel,” as they say, if someone has already figured out how to do something?
