LAKE CHELAN — The late-winter wallop that has deposited multiple feet of snow in the Cascades over the past week is improving snowpack even in the driest parts of the region above Lake Chelan, statistics show.

Since Feb. 1, the “snow-water equivalent” of mountain snowpack uplake has increased from an estimated 53 percent of average to the 74 percent of average posted Wednesday on the Northwest River Forecast Center website.
