Gathering Our Voice | A century of Wenatchee living: Esther Stevens Todd left a lifetime of memories from a simpler, but tougher, time

Esther Stevens Todd, a resident of the Wenatchee area for nearly a century, was one of many local people who have shared their stories with the Gathering Our Voice program — stories that have helped me and others feel more connected to this place. I talked with Esther in 2012, more than a year before she passed away at the age of 98, about her experiences and some of the changes she had seen. Excerpts from the interview transcribed by AmeriCorps volunteer Maria Davis follow.

The youngest of three children, Esther was born in 1914 at the family’s home on what is now known as McKittrick Street.
