OLYMPIA — Sen. Janéa Holmquist Newbry wants Washington to “quit chasing our consumers out of the state” with high taxes on liquor.
Holmquist Newbry on Wednesday announced a bill that would gradually reduce the excise tax rate on spirits sold in the state.
The state taxes spirits at 20.5 percent.
SB 6547 would incrementally lower the rate to 6.5 percent over eight years.
