The year 1914 is important for a lot of reasons, including the start of World War I.

But in Wenatchee, that year marked the survival of this newspaper, as its rival daily, The Republic, ceased publication.

It had been a brutal four years for The World, when W. T. Clark, the Republic’s owner, turned his weekly paper into direct competition with the World in 1910.
