Local photographer and all-around-good-guy Frank Cone marked the new year by getting artsy with some burning steel wool.

Here’s how he described this image: “I shot this at Riverfront Park near the swimming area. It’s actually four photos merged into one. I used the trees in the background as guides to where I should stand so the numbers wouldn’t overlap. Then I used the timer on the camera to delay the exposure for 5 seconds while I got in place and ignited the steel wool. I stood with my back to the camera and ‘wrote’ the numbers in the air. I merged the areas with the numbers using Photoshop. The lens is wide angle and fixed on a tripod.”
