Othel D. Haney, 87, a Wenatchee, WA resident for over 60 years, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014, at Central Washington Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 4, 1926, at Hart, AR to the late David H. and Lydia (Tucker) Haney. He was raised and schooled in Hart, AR. He met and was later married to Rosa Ann Shelley on November 20, 1950, in Hart, AR. Othel entered the U.S. Army in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict. He received his honorable discharge in 1952, and they moved to make their home in Wenatchee. He went to work in the area orchards, prior to becoming a Truck Driver for Consolidated Freightways. He was later able to purchase his own orchard and took great pride in taking care of it. He went to work full time at Alcoa in 1966, and through this time, also remodeled his home. He retired from Alcoa in 1989. They have continued to make their home in Wenatchee. He was a longtime member of King’s Orchard Church of Christ in Wenatchee and a former member of the East Wenatchee Church of Christ. He was a member of the Aluminum Glass and Brick Workers Union, Local # 310. Othel enjoyed his grandchildren, working in his orchard and shop, sharing his fruit, and served the church in many ways.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosa A. Haney of Wenatchee; four children, Jim D. Haney, Janet M. Purinton and Rick L. Haney, all of Wenatchee and Steven W. and his wife, Steffanie Haney of Peshastin; and one sister and brother-in-law, Veda and Gene Riddle of Richmond, CA. He was lovingly known as Papa by his eight grandchildren, Jennifer Purinton of Kirkland, Jessica Russell of Puyallup, Rachel Fenner of Marysville, Eric Haney of Hillsboro, OR, Richard Haney of Malaga, Adam Haney of Seattle, and Micah and Elisha Haney, both of Peshastin; and five great-grandchildren, Isaac Fenner and Mya Fenner, both of Marysville, Izzlee Haney and Calen Haney, both of Hillsboro, OR and Landon Fenner of Marysville. He was preceded in death by a stillborn infant son, James David Haney; two brothers, Troy and Floyd Haney; and one sister, Mildred Ward.

A Commemoration Service will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at King’s Orchard Church of Christ, 1610 Orchard Avenue, Wenatchee, with Dale Linge, Minister, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, January 27, 2014, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. You are invited to visit his tribute online at www.HeritageMemorialChapel.com.
