ORONDO — The Mike Utley Foundation has been awarded an NFL Charities Player Foundation Grant for $10,500. The program allocates grants each year to support current and former NFL players’ nonprofit foundations.
Mike Utley, an offensive guard for the Detroit Lions, was paralyzed during a 1991 NFL game. In his own fight to walk again, he established the Mike Utley Foundation in 1992. The foundation will use the grant funds to support patient equipment programs, research and rehabilitation for those living with spinal cord injuries.
