EAST WENATCHEE — During hot days, the temptation to drink water from a hose may be strong, but should be avoided, health officials say.

Water from hoses, back-yard swimming pools, irrigation lines, streams, rivers and ponds may contain giardia or campylobacter, organisms that can cause diarrhea in humans, say officials with the Chelan-Douglas Health District.

So far this year, two people have been treated for giardia ingestion, and three for campylobacter, officials say.
