WENATCHEE — One of Central Washington’s biggest swim meets is underway at the Wenatchee City Pool, with 490 children and adults from ages 6-21 competing in the Alcoa Starlight Open.

Velocity Swimming features a majority of Wenatchee Valley’s young swimming stars and currently leads the competition after the two days of racing. Nineteen teams made the trek to Wenatchee from as far as Seattle, Spokane and Mesa, Ariz. Due to the fires in the surrounding area, air quality for the event has been extremely low, hindering some swimmers from competing at their maximum potential.
