CARLTON — Seven homes are now being advised to evacuate immediately as the 600-acre Stokes Road Fire heated up this afternoon.
Residents on Texas Creek Road between 0.8 of a mile and 3.2 miles have been advised to leave their homes, fire spokesman Jacob McCann said. Texas Creek Road remains closed.
“The fires are active today,” he said, adding, “It looks like we’ve got some running through grass and slop over into timbered areas.”
McCann said a larger Type 2 interagency team is on its way to take over command of a complex of three fires now burning in the area.
Two smaller fires are also burning in the lower Methow Valley, including one directly across Highway 153 from Texas Creek, and another in the French Creek drainage south of Texas Creek.
This afternoon, a Canadian air tanker and a northeast region air attack plan were used to drop water, while 127 firefighters and other firefighting personnel worked to contain the Stokes Road blaze.
