CENTRALIA — The Apple Valley Packers lost in disappointing fashion Saturday in their first Washington State American Legion Baseball ‘AAA’ tournament game at Wheeler Field in Centralia. But the Packers’ players and coaching staff plan on using that loss as motivation as they head into consolation play today.
“It was kind of refreshing after the game to see the (players) so crushed to drop a close one like that,” said Apple Valley coach Dustin Willis after his team lost 7-6 in 11 innings to Bellingham Post 7. “During our long losing streak (earlier this summer), it seemed like at times that they’d rather be anywhere else in the world than a baseball field. But (after Saturday’s game), they were crushed, and they’re very excited to get back on the field (today) to try to keep the season alive. I’m excited, too.”
