MANSFIELD — More than 50 firefighters battled a 700-acre blaze near here this afternoon and by 6:30 p.m. had it mostly contained.

Chief Tyler Caille of Douglas County Fire District 5 said one barn and one outbuilding burned in the wildfire, which was first reported at 3:05 p.m. today about 3 miles southwest of Mansfield on Jameson Lake Road. The fire burned through mostly wheat and scattered brush.

Mutual aid responders from Douglas and Chelan counties raced to help District 5 firefighters, said Caille.

Cause of the blaze isn’t yet known, said the chief.
