Update, 3:16 p.m. Wednesday: The columns of smoke building over the Chiwaukum Creek Fire west of Leavenworth and the Duncan Fire in the Entiat Valley are rising into the upper atmosphere, making them visible for miles around. Fire officials say the fire is actively burning and growing as expected in the hot, dry conditions. But the Chiwaukum fire is mostly burning within fire lines and is not making any big runs yet, they said.

NCW — With temperatures topping 100 degrees in some areas, the wildfires burning from Winthrop to Leavenworth were active Tuesday, but fire officials reported no major runs on either the Chiwaukum or Carlton complexes.
