Gary Allen Applegarth

June 18, 1948 ~ June 2, 2014

Gary Allen Applegarth passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, peacefully, surrounded by his wife and five children. He was born in Wenatchee on June 18, 1948, and lived most of his life there. Gary married Kimberly Sue Greer in 1970, and they enjoyed 43 wonderful years together. They were blessed with five wonderful children. He was the happiest when the whole family was gathered together for BBQs, camping, vacations, and their yearly family reunion at Fort Flagler, WA. His favorite work experience was managing Dusty’s Drive-In, where he mentored many young people and instilled a strong work ethic. He always enjoyed finding quotes for their reader board that they were famous for. He worked for Wilbur Ellis Company before retiring in 2012. While there, he had a reputation for being firm and fair and was blessed with many lasting friendships. He coached girls fastpitch softball for 17 years, and loved those girls. He enjoyed teaching them not only to hit a ball and run, but life skills as well. Many lasting friendships were formed with them, their families, and his assistant coaches. One of his dreams was to restore a classic car, and this dream was realized when he acquired and restored his cousin’s 1969 Buick GS400. One of his favorite things was to take it to car shows and drive it in the Classy Chassis parade with his grandkids beside him.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; daughters, Erika (Ron) Snyder, Michelle (Kilp) Hogue, Katie Whitaker and Shawna (Tyler) Gardner; son, Garrett Applegarth; 12 grandchildren; his brother, Larry Applegarth; sisters, Betty Miracle and Julia Murray; sisters-in-law, Sharon, Marilyn, and Madeline Applegarth; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in East Wenatchee at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014. Arrangements by Telford’s Chapel of the Valley.
