Experts: Annexation, merged emergency services, higher taxes needed to cure city’s money woes

WENATCHEE — The city needs to regionalize its police and fire services, raise property taxes, and expand its borders to the north to get back on solid financial ground, a committee of trusted business and community leaders says.

Calling the recommendations painful but necessary, the group advised the city to merge the Wenatchee Police Department with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office and the Wenatchee Fire Department with Chelan County Fire District 1.
