Margene (Minton) Merrow

November 16, 1947 ~ June 3, 2014

Following a brave battle with Alzheimer’s, Margene M. Merrow, 66, of Guemes Island, WA, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at ‘Where the Heart Is’ in Burlington, WA. She was born on November 16, 1947, in Boise, ID, the daughter of Robert and Zelma (King) Minton. Margene grew up and graduated from high school in Wenatchee, WA in 1966. After a short time at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, WA, Margene moved to Seattle. Shortly thereafter, she began working at Battelle Seattle Research Center, and remained there for 24 years, until taking early retirement. In 1983, Margene married Marcus Merrow and not long after, they discovered Guemes Island and the log cabin that first captured their attention. After Margene’s retirement in 1997, she moved to Guemes and enjoyed several years there, tending to her flower gardens and participating in many island activities, as well as working full time as a bookkeeper for Island International Artists, located on Guemes. Her favorite place was with her husband and flowers on Guemes.

Marcus would like to express his gratitude to the staff at ‘Where the Heart Is’ for the wonderful care that Margene was given.

Margene was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Marcus; sisters and brother-in-law, Eloise Harle, Terry Murphy, and Diane and Don Newman; and several nieces and nephews.

A Private Family Interment will be held at Eden Cemetery on Guemes Island. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Bellingham, 1308 Meador Avenue, Suite C-1, Bellingham, WA, 98229. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
