NCW — Local fire officials say despite last week’s rain, wildfire season is expected to happen about a month earlier than usual this summer, and is likely to result in earlier campfire restrictions on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.

The U.S. Forest Service generally begins looking at fuel moisture content and fire potential in this region in early July to determine when campfire restrictions may go into effect, said Forest Service spokeswoman Robin DeMario.
