Betty Ann (Chaffee) Boruff
April 19, 1930 ~ June 15, 2014
Betty Ann (Chaffee) Boruff, 84, a longtime Ephrata, WA resident, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, at McKay Healthcare in Soap Lake, WA. She was born in Englewood, CO on April 19, 1930, to George and Leah Chaffee, the youngest of six children. In the spring of 1949, during a visit to her sister, Frances (Lloyd) Taylor in Ephrata, WA, who was good friends of Slats Boruff, she met Clarence “Buster” Boruff. Six months later, she returned to Ephrata to become Mrs. Clarence Boruff. They were married October 29, 1949. Soon they started their family and three sons were born, Randy in 1951, Thomas in 1955, and Patrick in 1967. Betty was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She loved Jesus, her Lord, and she passed that on to her three boys. Betty was a deacon of her church, First Presbyterian Church, and it was a big part of her life. After her husband passed away in 1988, she enjoyed camping with the Elks Road Runner RV Club, driving her own camper! She thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her friends. She was known for her homemade breads and pies and often was seen pedaling her bike all over Ephrata, going from house to house. Betty was a professional house cleaner, which she did because it’s what she knew and she wanted to stay in good physical shape. She was a caregiver to the entire Boruff family and kept busy being a chauffeur, as well as a friend, who fulfilled their needs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Leah Chaffee; husband, Clarence “Buster” Boruff; son, Thomas; sisters, Olive, Vera, Virginia, and Frances; and brother, Bill. Betty is survived by her sons, Randy (Diane) Boruff and Patrick (Jill) Boruff; daughter-in-law, Julie Boruff, all of Ephrata; brother, Harold Chaffee of Lincoln, NE; ten grandchildren, Shellie Sainsbury of Columbia-Burbank, WA, Brandi (Keith) Headrick of Walland, TN, Josh (Charity) Sainsbury of Ephrata, Josh (Jenahlee) Boruff of Vancouver, WA, Gabrielle (Erika) Boruff of Pasco, WA, Samuel (Rachel) Boruff of Moses Lake, WA, Tami (Kyle) Boast of Seattle, WA, Crystal (Jeremy) Burns of Ephrata, and Rachel and Max Boruff of Ephrata; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A Family Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Ephrata Cemetery. Memorial Service will be held at the Community Church of Ephrata, 54 K Street SE, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon.
