When it comes to cars, Americans have stronger opinions than they do about almost anything else, including politics and religion, One could even argue that cars are a religion to some car aficionados. And where there’s religion, there’s always controversy.
One such controversy is about ”rat rods” — a style of hot rod or custom car that emulates the homemade early hot rods of the 1940s, ’50s and early ’60s. These cars were built by owners from swapped parts from different vehicles for an “unfinished” look. Often their engines are exposed and bodies painted only with primer, or even allowed to rust.
