This is a wonderful time of year. Summer and the best cherries in the world arrive simultaneously. As they say ... sweet.
We in Washington are truly blessed that our orchards produce such a bounty. The sweet cherry crop is expected to reach 22 million boxes this year, enormous, the third largest harvest ever, not far behind the 23-million-box record set in 2012. Quality, we trust, will be very good. Our recent rainy interlude was said to cause only minimal problems. Reports show a sufficient supply of labor for harvest. Thanks in part to awful weather for California growers, prices are expected to be very good.
