Rachel Scott, 7, East Wenatchee, left, as a scientist, and Petra Ringsrud, 6, Wenatchee, as a butterfly, play Saturday in the Washington State University Master Gardeners Community Education Garden at Western and Springwater avenues during an event that focused on butterflies. A butterfly garden was put in last fall. The demonstration site also features a rose garden, raised beds of vegetables and herbs, native plants, dahlias, a variety of drip irrigation systems, composing, and trees and shrubs that are resistant to deer browsing. On the third Saturday of every month, the garden is open for public tours, guided walks and demonstrations. Upcoming programs include first-aid for your garden, a focus on tomatoes, and fall gardening.
