EPHRATA — Grant County PUD commissioners have approved the first of several contracts to overhaul all 10 of the 50-year-old turbine/generator units at Priest Rapids Dam.

Work will begin in 2016.

One unit per year will be modernized through 2026, PUD spokesman Tom Stredwick said Tuesday.

Turbine repairs alone are expected to cost some $150 million over that 10-year period, Stredwick said.

Work to modernize the dam’s generators will happen simultaneously. Bids will go out on that work this summer.
