Donna M. Woods

March 10, 1927 ~ June 22, 2014

Donna M. Woods, 87 years of age, a resident of McCleary, WA and former Wenatchee/Omak, WA resident, died on Sunday, June 22, 2014, in Elma, WA. Donna was born on March 10, 1927, in Maryville, MO to Glade and Maybel (Clayton) Wiley. Her family moved to Omak when she was a youth and she helped by doing household chores and working in the family garden. She graduated from Omak High School and was the senior class Valedictorian. She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ, as well as sewing, craft works, reading books on history and bird watching. On July 11, 1947, Donna was married to Norman J. Woods in Omak. The couple resided in Omak, Spokane and Seattle, where she worked for Boeing. They next moved to Concord, CA, where she was a secretary for the Contra Costa County until she retired in 1984, and was also a member of Soroptimist International. They later moved to Wenatchee, where she attended the Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Church women’s group. Norman got his private pilot’s license and Donna figured she should be able to fly their Cessna as well, so, in 1973, she also got her private pilot’s license. Following her retirement, Norman and Donna bought an RV and spent their next 12 years traveling about the greater part of the United States, going to Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico. Donna never said “no” to a trip. In 2012, she enjoyed a visit from her great-grandchild.

Donna was the mother of five children, David Woods (Sue), Richard Woods (Joan), Diane Stanley (Bill), Brian Woods and Craig Woods (Neomi); her grandchildren, Jason, Tiana, Aaron, Jenny, Jessica, Kaitlyn and Daniel; her great-grandchildren, Drake, Aria, Hayden, Winter, John and Nick; her brother, Robert Wiley (Millie); her sister-in-law, Nancy Wiley; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Woods; her brother, Galen Wiley; her sister and brother in-law, Geri and Pete Peterson; and her sister, Mercelene Darling.

A Graveside Service of Inurnment will be held at a later date in Omak. The family requests donations to the Diabetes Association, PAWS or to the Trinity Methodist Church Memorial Fund in Wenatchee. Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam, WA. Please take a few moments to record your thoughts for the family by signing the online register at www.colemanmortuary.net.
