Heavy breathing: Don’t try this at home. On March 1, nine Wenatchee firefighters donned full emergency gear and took to a stair climber at Pybus Public Market. They raised about $1,000 from the public. The money will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which will also be the recipient of the annual fundraiser in Seattle today. That’s when about 1,800 firefighters climb the 1,311 stairs at the Columbia Center, the tallest building in Seattle.

The nine Wenatchee firefighters who did the stair climber at Pybus will also do the stair event in Seattle. They are Darin Radcliff, Al Torres, Chris Paul, Glenn Smith, Clint Webley, James Bailey, Mike Day, Lyle Stewart and Mike Atkinson.
