Increased flows get Rock Island Dam generating again

WENATCHEE — Rock Island Dam Saturday began making electricity again, powered by carefully coordinated Columbia River flows released from upriver dams.

The increased flows enabled the Chelan County PUD to restart seven turbine/generator units at the dam to generate about 240 megawatts of power at times. The dam’s rated generation capacity is 624 megawatts.

Continued operation will depend on river flows, utility officials say. The PUD plans to run several of the units between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.…
