More than two weeks into the saga of the great Wanapum Dam spillway crack, and the region is still awestruck by the impact. Grant County PUD officials provided a briefing on the crisis Thursday and left the impression that an impressive supply of world-class engineering expertise is at work on the problem, but the answers and solution are not close at hand. Officials naturally hesitate to give a timeline, but say the return of normal river operations is likely “months” away.
