The first preseason game for the Wenatchee Valley boys lacrosse team nearly turned into a tragedy last Saturday when head coach Dave Holland had a cardiac event on the field that eventually required five minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation to keep the coach alive.

The team was participating in the Cavalier Invitational in Bellingham when, two minutes into the contest against Snohomish, the long-time coach started to feel light-headed. But thanks to the quick thinking of a former player and the Wenatchee Valley Lacrosse Club president Gary Smith, the new grandfather’s life was saved.
