NCW — The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has declared an emergency to help farmers who have trouble with irrigation due to the Wanapam Dam drawdown.

In effect through April 30, the emergency applies to Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Kittitas counties, and is needed to prevent damage to orchards or other water-dependent agriculture. It allows the state agency to quickly issue hydraulic project approval permits required for work that diverts the flow of streams managed by the state.
