BRIDGEPORT — It took decades to do it, but after fighting with the state Department of Ecology over water for years, the city of Bridgeport nearly doubled its water right Tuesday.

Three years ago, Bridgeport didn’t have enough water to issue any building permits. Now, it can add some 165 new homes or businesses — enough to sustain growth for at least 20 years, Mayor Marilynn Lynn said.
