ENTIAT — A 9-year-old Chelan boy “did everything right” Thursday morning to save his two younger sisters from a fire and help put out a fire at their rental house, said Entiat firefighter Jim Brooks.

The boy was home sick from school when he called 911 at 9:27 a.m. to report a fire in the kitchen at 509 Stayman Flats Road, said Brooks, deputy chief of Chelan County Fire District 8. The children’s father, who had left to take his wife to work, returned home after the three children were out of the house and fire crews were on their way. The boy and his father used a garden hose to put the fire out before crews arrived.
