QUINCY — The cacti typically begin to bloom in April.

The dozen people who spread out Sunday across Babcock Bench near Quincy were united by a common goal.

Heads down and cameras swinging by their necks, the group was looking for any burst of bright pink among the rusty browns of the basalt and spring greens of the sagebrush.
