Road work for a better downtown

A stroll on Wenatchee Avenue downtown on a warm spring afternoon is still a most pleasant and relaxing experience, but look around and you can see evidence that a good share of it is about to be chewed up. Spray-paint lines mark future surgery on streets and sidewalks. Street Closed signs are propped up and ready to block traffic. Come sundown you anticipate this will be a busy, and different place.

It’s easy to imagine a dirty mess, as the downtown repaving and revitalization project moves ahead. Right now, it’s important for those of us who patronize downtown businesses and restaurants to remember that this construction-induced inconvenience is no reason for us to change our habits. In fact, it is most important that we do not.
