Berta King, 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 15, 2014. Berta Zelma Hollowell was born on December 15, 1915, in Cushman, AR to Robert and Mattie (Smith) Hollowell. She was the eighth of nine children. Early in her childhood, the family moved a short distance to Mt. Pleasant, AR, where Berta finished her schooling. In 1932, she married Doyle “Buster” King of Mt. Pleasant. Buster and Berta had three sons, Doyle, Paul and Mike. The family lived in Arkansas and Kansas before settling in Orondo, WA in 1961. In Orondo, both Berta and Buster worked for the Auvil Fruit Company. Berta was known as a hard worker and dedicated employee, working various jobs in the orchard and packing shed. Berta worked for Auvil Fruit Company until the death of Buster in 1984. In 1985, she moved to East Wenatchee, WA, where she lived until her death. In 1988, Berta also joined the Eastmont Presbyterian Church. Throughout her life, Berta took great pleasure in watching her family grow. She had seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Berta was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle “Buster” King; her son, Doyle King, Jr.; and grandchild, Talia. She is survived by her sons, William (Paul) King of Wenatchee, WA and Mike King of St. George, UT; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside Service was held on Saturday, May 11, 2014, at Orondo Cemetery in Orondo, WA. Please express your thoughts and memories on the online guestbook at jonesjonesbetts.com. Arrangements by Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home, Wenatchee.
