Mary Suzanne Zanol

April 5, 1955 ~ May 15, 2014

Mary Sue was born on April 5, 1955, at the old St. Anthony’s Hospital in Wenatchee, WA. She was the firstborn child of Billy R. Zanol and Jacquelyn Marie (Short) Zanol. She died on May 15, 2014. Mary Sue was raised in Orondo, WA with her eight siblings in the family home, which their father had built. She was baptized at the old St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. From age six to 12, she attended special education classes at Washington Elementary School. There, she made friends, of whom she spoke the rest of her life. Mary Sue loved singing and had a wide repertoire. Most could recognize the melodies, but the lyrics (and the volume) were all her own. Besides her red hair and big brown eyes, Mary Sue was known and loved for her unique personality. Even with her limited vocabulary, she could make her wishes known and let anyone know exactly what she thought of them. In 2000, Mary Sue moved to Waterville, WA, where she was lovingly welcomed into the home of John and Ida Gooch. She thrived in this busy, happy environment. She was also gathered in by the entire Gooch extended family. Mary Sue’s special love was the many babies who came into her life.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her siblings: Michael Zanol, Joan Steichen, John (and Jane) Zanol, Elizabeth (and Grant) Daniel, Thomas (and Angie) Zanol, Andrew Zanol and Anthony Zanol. Also 19 nieces and nephews; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Leonard and Margaret Zanol and Howard and Angela Short. Also by her nephew, David Steichen; her sister, Therese Hewitt (January 26, 2014); and her only aunt and uncle, Elnor and Carroll Reid. Mary Sue will also be missed by her “second” family: John and Ida Gooch, Terina and Shawn O’Kelley, and Brian, Jena, Hunter and Gemma Gooch.
